Summer is officially here, and we’re already making the most of it — rain showers, birthday parties, princesses at the pool, and all. Even though the summer heat is cranking up this week, we managed to squeeze in a whole bunch of fun to kick things off.
We started with our co-op’s summer send-off, which is a good way to begin the season. It’s always a little bittersweet to say goodbye to regular meetups, but it feels like a perfect, friendly way to welcome the long, unstructured summer days ahead.
Then there was the birthday party at the roller ribbon — our son was thrilled to rent a scooter and zoom around with his friends. Watching him and the other kids race around was pure joy. It was one of those simple celebrations that reminds you what summer is all about: movement, laughter, and friends.
And oh, the rainstorm after the dentist appointment! Of course, that was the one day we didn’t have rain gear. Who am I kidding — we still do not own rain gear. Someday. But, lucky for us, the dentist was handing out free umbrellas — talk about perfect timing. Nothing like a kid sprinting across the parking lot with a shiny new umbrella and a soaked mom who thought it was hilarious.
That same week, we hit up a summer zoo homeschool class. One thing I decided to do this year was plan these classes every month so we have an excuse to get out of the house, see some animals, and break up our routine. When I told our son about the plan, his first response was, “But it’s going to be hot.” Don’t worry — I assured him the classes are downstairs in the museum basement with glorious AC. “Give me a break, kid,” I laughed. Priorities, right?
And to top it all off, we attended a pool party with none other than Princess Ariel herself! Splashing in the pool and watching the kids light up was the perfect way to jump into summer. I’ll admit I sung a song or two with the princess from the pool, of course.
This week we’re hunkering down at home because we’re under a heat wave — definitely going to enjoy the AC and some quiet, indoor adventures for a bit. But after a fun, busy start like this one, I have a feeling we’ll be ready to jump back into the action before long.
Here’s to a summer full of scooters, surprise rain showers, zoo days, princesses, and plenty of laughs. Let the adventures continue — after we cool off!
