This is the week we’re reminded to pause, reflect, and be thankful for what we have. So, here’s where my thoughts lead me down the rabbit hole of gratitude.
I’m deeply thankful for the chance to homeschool our youngest. It’s not always easy to resist the pressure to go with the mainstream flow, and it can be a real challenge to do it on a tight budget. But despite the hurdles, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.
Sure, there are moments when I question if I’m doing it right. But the point is—we’re doing it. These past two weeks have been a blur of relaxed downtime, letting everyone follow their own rhythm. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves grace for not being those “go-go-go” parents. Kudos to the families with kids who thrive on constant activity! Ours prefers a slower pace, and we’ve learned to embrace it. For that, I am thankful.
I’m also grateful for my amazing wife and partner, who sees value in all my crazy endeavors. She juggles an underappreciated 9-to-5 job and still comes home ready to keep everything running smoothly. Her efforts deserve a standing ovation.
I’m thankful that our grown kids seem to have found their own paths—though it wouldn’t hurt if they visited a bit more often (hint, hint).
And I’m grateful for our extended family and friends, who supply us with much-needed laughs and the occasional dose of adult conversation.
Lastly, I’m incredibly thankful for you, my readers. Sharing this journey with you, knowing that someone out there might relate or find inspiration, means so much to me. Your support keeps this space alive and helps me feel connected in ways I never expected.
This blog is short and sweet as we prepare for the holidays. I haven’t even planned Thanksgiving yet—partly because my wife has to work. However, I am excited to kick off the season at the Carmel Christkindlmarket.
Here’s a quick budget-friendly tip to spark holiday magic: Fill up the gas tank, brew a thermos of hot cocoa, pop some popcorn, and Google free Christmas light displays in your area. Pack the family in the car and enjoy an evening of festive cheer without spending much.
How about you? How are you planning to spend this holiday season? Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear your ideas!
